German Tutoring Philosophy:
I tutor using a variety of approaches. If a student does not
understand what I am talking about or trying to get them to do, it is not their fault, it is mine. It
is my responsibility to communicate in a diverse and varied way, tailored to each student.
My
goal is to always have clear perspective and infinite patience. Healthy, clear, creative solutions to challenges
are always possible to find if both individuals are open to them.
What
I tutor:
German language and literature at most levels;
Spoken German comprehension, conversation & interpretation;
Written German comprehension,

German
literature comprehension and translation.
Why
I tutor:
I tutor for many reasons: It is very satisfying;
I enjoy the challenges of communicating with
people on a very personal level;
I constantly learn from all the students with whom I work;
I enjoy helping people interested in improving
their comprehension of German language and culture;
I am able to help students better understand the challenging German language
and improve their grades;
I have been able to live and study in Austria, Germany, France and the United States and have learned
different approaches and techniques from many different people and teachers.
Where I tutor:
There are two
options:
I tutor at my house which
is located in south Kansas City, Missouri between Wornall and Holmes Roads at 128th Street.
I also tutor throughout
the Kansas City metro area. Per hour rates differ depending upon distance to travel. Please
contact me to discuss your preference for tutoring locale and rates.
How I tutor:
I am a very interactive teacher:
I ask a lot of questions
and rarely ask rhetorical questions.
I challenge students to think and find answers.
I provide students with tools which they can apply themselves and then come to me with further questions.
Smart, self-aware students are able to find solutions themselves most of the time when they have the tools
to do so.
When I tutor:
I encourage students to meet one hour once a week.
This has proven to be very effective and produce the best results. However, if a student cannot
afford to do this, I completely understand. Consistency is very important. If it is
one hour or ½ hour, meeting regularly produces excellent results.
Some students schedule sessions on the same day and time each week. Others’ schedules change weekly
so we schedule sessions each week as the week arrives.
I can be contacted for scheduling via email, text message or voice mail.
My schedule
tends to change slightly each week but there are certain slots which do not change. Therefore, I enjoy
a lot of diversity and flexibility working with each of my students to accommodate all of our schedules each week.
